17th Sunday Of Year C
Jesus spent much of his time praying to the Father and in today’s Gospel, he teaches his disciples how to pray by presenting to them the Lord’s Prayer. All our needs can be summed up in this prayer. Jesus goes on to encourage the disciples to persevere in prayer. He gives them confidence that anything that they ask for will be granted, assuring them that the heavenly Father gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.
Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady
On Sunday 14th August, we will be celebrating the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady. We recall how the Blessed Virgin Mary, when the course of her earthly life was completed, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven, where she already shares in the glory of her Son’s Resurrection, anticipating the resurrection of all members of his Body.
Survive - Miva
On the weekend of 30th/31st July we will be having a second collection for SURVIVE - MIVA (Missionary Vehicle Association). It is a Catholic lay association and Registered Charity, founded in 1974. It exists to provide one vital element to ensure the success of the Church’s healthcare and pastoral work with remote communities in impoverished parts of the world—mobility. SURVIVE-MIVA do not export vehicles but transfer funds to Diocesan accounts overseas for purchase in - country: it is the people ‘on the ground’ who know best their own requirements. Representatives from SURVIVE - MIA will speak at Masses next weekend.
Mercy Masses
During this Year of Mercy, we have been having an extra Mass each month, taking the theme of Mercy. Each Mass has been followed by the opportunity for confession. After taking a break in July and August, we will resume on Friday 30th September at 7.30pm. The October Mass will be on Friday 28th at 7.30pm. This is the Feast of St Simon and St Jude and during the Mass we will be blessing our new statue of St Jude. Also on this occasion we will be inviting back Fr David to celebrate the Mass and have a farewell get-together in the Parish Centre afterwards. Our final Mercy Mass will be on Friday 25th November which will also be our annual Bereavement Mass. The Year of Mercy officially ends on 20th November, the Feast of Christ the King.
Your Priests
Father Jozef Urbanic will be back with us during August. He arrives on the evening of Sunday 31st July. Father Colin will be away from 1st to 26th August. Father David will be away with the Diocesan Pilgrimage in Lourdes from 24th to 30th July. He will be away during August and moving to Tottenham in September.
Deacon Carlos Quito will be arriving in the parish on 9th September.
Masses at Deborah Lodge
There will be Masses at Deborah Lodge on Fridays 5th August and 2nd September at 3pm.
Baptism Preparation
There will be a meeting for parents who wish to have their baby baptised on Sunday 18th September at 4pm in the Dominic Room in the Parish Centre. Application forms can be collected from the sacristy.
Parish Council Meeting
The Parish Council meet on Thursday 11th September at 7.45pm in the Presbytery.
Communion Under One Kind
On Sundays during the month of August, Holy Communion will be distributed under one kind only. One Eucharistic Minister is asked to come forward to assist the priest in the distribution of hosts.
Tuesday Novena & Wednesday Holy Hour
The Tuesday Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help resumes on 13th September at 7pm. The Wednesday Holy Hour resumes on 21st September at 9.30am.
On Wednesday 14th September, Mass will be at 9.15am in the Annunciation Infants School next to the Church.
Catholic Education Service
There will be a second collection for the Catholic Education Service on the weekend of 10/11th September.
Mass on Mondays
From now on, Mass on Mondays is at 7.30 am only. For anybody who has booked a 9am Monday Mass in advance, this will be transferred to the 7.30am Mass on the same day. When Deacon Carlos arrives there will also be a Communion Service on Mondays at 9am, starting from 12th September.

First Communion 2017
Application forms are available in the porch for parents who wish to apply for their child to join the First Communion Programme. Forms should be returned by 11th September at the latest. The child should be starting in Year 3 or above next September. There will be an introductory meeting for the parents who have applied for their child on Tuesday 27th September at 7.45pm in the Parish Centre. There will then be 7 sessions for parents and 7 sessions for children during the course of the programme, starting on Tuesday 4th October for parents (7.45pm) and Sunday 9th October (9.15am) for children.
RCIA Sessions
Sessions for those adults who are considering baptism, reception into the church or confirmation start on Tuesday 11th October at 8pm, upstairs in the Parish Centre. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process whereby adults journey in the faith toward receiving the Sacraments and become full members of the Catholic Church. Please let those interested know about this, or you may like to introduce them to one of the priests.
Meeting for Catechists
There will be a meeting for the First Holy Communion catechists on Tuesday 20th September at 7.45pm in the Parish Centre.
Summer Fayre

Burnt Oak Parade & Festival
On Saturday 17th September, Altogether Better Burnt Oak are organising its third Multi-cultural Parade and Festival. The parade starts from Edgware Hospital, gathering between 10.30 and 11am. We invite you to join the group from Annunciation Church. Schools and other groups will be taking part. The parade will make its way along Burnt Oak Broadway to Silkstream Park where there will be games, entertainment, refreshments and stalls. We will have a Parish stall, which will sell religious items and cakes. If you were able to provide cakes for the occasion (nearer the time of course) we would be grateful. We will need volunteers for the stall at which we will also have Parish publicity leaflets. If you are able to help, please speak to Fr Colin.
Cheeky Chums
The mum and tots’ group is now closed for the summer holidays and will reopen on Wednesday 7th September.

Remember last week, the two men in the bar who had a few drinks and discovered that they were from the same town and the same street. Curiosity again strikes and first man asks “What school did you go to?” “The local Grammar School” replies the second man. “I left in 62.” “This is unbelievable!” the first man says. “I too went to the local Grammar School and left in 62! Lets have another drink.” About that time in come one of the regulars and sits at the bar. “What’s been going on” he asks the bartender. “Nothing much”replies the bartender. “The Jackson twins are drunk again.”
