10th Sunday of the Year (B)
We now return to Sundays in Ordinary Time which continue until the Feast of Christ the King in November. The one exception is in two weeks time when we celebrate the Birthday of St John the Baptist. Today’s Gospel offers us an image of Jesus as the one who breaks into Satan’s stronghold to rescue all held captive in sin and shame. So rather than being destroyed by evil spirits, we are made new by God’s spirit. We are freed, forgiven and become brothers and sisters of Jesus.
Tuesday Evening with Our Lady
Starting this Tuesday and for the following four Tuesdays, we will be showing a video on Our Lady, entitled ‘Let it Be’. We start with refreshments at 7.30 and the session lasts from 7.45 to 9pm, in the Canon Smyth Parish Centre. It will follow our weekly Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual held at 7pm in the church. You are most welcome and can come along to one, more or all the five sessions. Each session is complete in itself. You will be issued with a booklet free of charge. The video and book have been produced by CaFÉ, Catholic Faith Exploration.
Thank You From Bishop John Sherrington
Bishop John Sherrington has written to thank us for the warm welcome he received when he came to the Parish for the Sacrament of Confirmation on 25th May. He was inspired by the way in which the young people had prepared for the Confirmation and hopes that they will continue to contribute to the life of the Parish, building up their faith as witnesses to Christ. Bishop John thanks the catechists and musicians who contributed to a worthy celebration of the occasion.

Data Protection
You will be aware that the General Data Protection Regulations came into force on 25th May. As a parish and as a Diocese as a whole we must be careful to comply with these regulations. Any data that we hold must be locked away and not passed on to anybody else. In order to assure you of this we are amending the application forms for Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation and Funeral. Certain volunteers in the parish, for example rota preparers, have details about other parishioners. If you are one of these volunteers, please ask me for a form which needs to be read, signed and returned to me. If anyone is concerned about data we might have about them, please speak to Fr Colin. Thank you very much for your co-operation over this matter.

‘I cannot understand you,’ said the young man to his unmarried aunt. ‘You seem so happy and contented. I’ve always thought that unmarried women are lonely and miserable and just longing for the presence of a man about the place.’ ‘Well,’ his aunt responded, smiling, ‘I’ve got a fireplace that smokes, a parrot that swears, a cat that stays out half the night with no explanation, and a dog that leaves muddy footprints all over the house and lies on the couch in front of the telly for hours. What more do I want?’
