Takehomenews Pentecost Sunday 28 May 2023

PENTECOST

Pentecost represents the birth of the Church as we know it. The Holy Spirit came down on the Apostles, giving them the power and gifts to carry on the work of Jesus, who had now ascended into heaven. The Apostles, were able to preach the Word of God boldly, often with strong opposition. They were instrumental in building up the church, baptising many and reaching several different communities. This apostolic work has continued over the centuries and we too as members of the Church, filled with the Holy Spirit have a duty to live and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. May we be open to the Holy Spirit working in us, guiding us and giving us the strength to do God’s will.

Prayer of THE HOLY SPIRIT

Holy Spirit come into our lives.

Open our ears: To hear what you are saying to us

In the things that happen to us

In the people we meet

Open our eyes: To see the needs of the people round us.

Open our hands: To do our work well, to help when help is needed.

Open our lips: To tell others the Good News of Jesus

To bring comfort, happiness and laughter to other people.

Open our minds: To discover new truth about You and the world

Open our hearts: To love you and our fellow men and women

As you have loved us in Jesus.

To you with our Father and the Son, one God, all honour and praise shall be given now and forever. Amen.

CONFIRMATIONS

How good it was to have 19 of our young parishioners receive the Holy Spirit at the Confirmation ceremony last Thursday. There will be another 24 receiving the Sacrament this coming Thursday. Bishop John Sherrington will return to confirm them at a Mass at 7pm. There will be a rehearsal on Tuesday at 7.00 in the church.

First communion programme

These will take place on Saturday 10th June with Masses at 2pm and 3.30pm. There will be a rehearsal on Friday 9th June at 6.pm.

The Universe Catholic Weekly

Since COVID a digital version of the Catholic newspaper, the Universe has been produced instead of a hard copy. But now they have resumed producing the hard print copies and a sample of this can be found on the table in the porch. Please have a look at this and see whether you would like to receive a regular copy of the Universe. Please let us know. We would need to receive at least five people interested for us to go ahead with this venture.

Recommissioning of Eucharistic Ministers

The recommissioning of Eucharistic Ministers for a further year will take place at Masses on the weekend of Corpus Christi (10th /11th June).

WESTMINSTER DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES

This takes place from 21st to 28th July. Please see the Tangney Tours poster in the church for details and ask one of the priests for an application form if you are interested in going.
