TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B 2024
Christianity: An Invitation to a Living Encounter with Jesus
Jesus’ encounter with the rich young man in this Sunday’s Gospel reveals a fundamental truth that Christianity is more than mere adherence to rules but more about a personal relationship with God. The young man had faithfully followed the law but still felt, this can’t be all there is. His question, “What must I do to possess eternal life?” shows his desire for a deeper meaning.
Jesus did not offer him a formula to add eternal life to his many possessions. Instead, Jesus invited him into a deeper relationship, a life-changing journey of self-abandonment to God. Jesus' challenge to the man to sell his possessions is by no means a rejection of God’s gift of riches and wealth. Rather it symbolises the call to total self-giving in pursuit of God’s greater love. This total self-giving is made possible, not by an ethical choice nor lofty ideas but by an encounter with the Person, Jesus who gives life a new Horizon. (Pope Benedict XVI, Deus Caritas Est). This is the encounter that makes our Faith come alive and Life-giving.
In moments of doubt, when God’s invitations seem difficult, we are to seek His grace and be open to His Life-giving word (Hebrews 4:12-13), which leads us to the fullness of Life Eternal. O Lord, help us by your grace. Amen

RCIA (RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS)
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adult is the rite or programme through which adults are baptised and received into the Catholic Church. It is also a programme that allows adults who want to explore the Catholic Faith before deciding to be received into the Church. It is due to begin. But we need a catechist or person who can take the lead on that before we can start. We already have two volunteers. But we need a lead person. So, if you have been part of the RCIA team elsewhere or you think you might be able to help, please speak with Fr Chinedu.
SOCIETY OF ST VINCENT de PAUL (SVP)
We plan to start a Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP) here in our parish.
