Second Sunday of Lent Year C 2025

God’s faithfulness invites us to trust.

This Sunday’s first reading recounts God’s covenant with Abraham, a promise of faithfulness to which Abraham was called to respond with trust. During Lent, we are invited to reflect on God's all-surpassing faithfulness through the ages, fully manifested on the Cross.

In Jesus, God seals an eternal covenant and invites us to embrace it with trust. We do that by trusting in God’s promises and resisting the temptations that come our way while fixing our hearts on our true homeland in heaven so that we do not become enemies of the cross as St. Paul warns us against. He tells us to stand firm. (Philippians 4:1).

To strengthen our faith, Jesus took his disciples to Mount Tabor and transfigured before them: Firstly, to reassure them of his identity, that in difficult times, they would remember in whom they had put their trust. Similarly, we must recall God’s past faithfulness in our moments of trials. Secondly, the Transfiguration points to the glory that awaits us when our lowly bodies are transformed into His glorious body. Lastly, as the fulfilment of the Law and the Prophets, we are to listen to Jesus, who alone is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Lord, may the contemplation of your faithfulness strengthen our trust in you.

Happy Sunday Fr Chinedu
