TAKEHOMENEWS SUNDAY 2 MARCH 2025

RCDOW Burnt Oak

Eighth SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME c

Can the Blind Lead the Blind?

In today’s Gospel from Luke 6:39-45, Jesus asks his disciples (and us), “Can the blind lead the blind?” This question is an invitation to be open to an interior transformation through the light of the Holy Spirit. To guide others in faith, we must first be enlightened by the Holy Spirit. We cannot give what we do not have. Only a heart rooted in God’s life of grace can lead others to a life of grace.

Jesus warns against hypocrisy and urges us to work on ourselves first. Thus, he invites us to remove the plank from our eyes first.  It is easier to judge and pick on others’ faults. But genuine Christian discipleship begins with an interior self-examination. In this way, our hearts bear the true fruits of gracious words and actions, which reflect our soul’s         condition. Indeed, a tree is known by its fruit. (Sirach 27:4-7)

Rather than focusing on others’ faults, Jesus calls us to strive every day to conform our minds and vision to his. (see Philippians 4:8). By immersing ourselves in God’s light through a deliberate but prayerful self-examination, we are transformed by grace whose channels we become to others we meet. O Lord, enlighten our minds that we may see and lead others to you. Amen.                       Happy Sunday    Fr Chinedu
