First Sunday of Lent Year C 2025

Lent: A Season of Renewal

Lenten season offers a sacred invitation to return to our baptismal calling by the renewal of our baptismal promises for greater freedom in Christ. But this is a journey with the Holy Spirit. As Jesus was led into the wilderness by the Spirit, we, too, are led to confront our deserts of sin and thus be more closely conformed to Christ.

The Gospel (Luke 4:1-13) reveals that every temptation can be an opportunity for the triumph of grace over weaknesses. Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, conquered every trial by standing on God’s Word. Armed with the spiritual weapons of prayer, fasting, charity and God’s word, we, too, will confront our deserts of sin with an unfailing hope.

To do this, we must anchor on God’s faithfulness in the past. In this     Sunday’s first reading (Deuteronomy 26:4-10), Israel recalls her journey from slavery to freedom, declaring God’s faithfulness. Consequently, they found the strength to face the future with confidence. Likewise, at each Mass, we profess our faith in God’s faithfulness and offer to the Father Christ’s perfect sacrifice. May we then put our trust in God during this Lent as we faithfully acknowledge our need for God in whom we have put our trust and will never be put to shame” (Romans 10:8-13). Amen.

Happy Sunday.
